At the Israeli American Council conference in Washington, Brett McGurk, US President Joe Biden’s Middle East adviser, discussed the recent killing of Ibrahim Aqil, a key figure in Hezbollah.

He said the high-ranking Hezbollah operative who was killed was linked to the Beirut embassy bombing 40 years ago, and so his death was not met with regret by many.
“Ibrahim Aqil, who was killed today, was responsible for the Beirut embassy bombing 40 years ago. So no one is shedding tears for him. However, we have disagreements with the Israelis about tactics and how you measure the risk of escalation. This is a very worrying situation. I am confident that through diplomacy, deterrence and other means we will get out of this situation,” McGurk said.
He also added that “the war in Lebanon is not a means to the end of bringing people home.” And he expressed the full support of the United States for Israel in its efforts to protect its people and territory from Hezbollah terrorists. McGurk also concluded that the situation in the north must be resolved diplomatically.
Earlier, Cursor reported that IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said that Ibrahim Akil, a senior Hezbollah commander, as well as the leadership of the Task Force and the elite Radwan forces, were underground during the Israeli airstrike.
