Russian troops were actively preparing for an offensive operation in the Sumy region, with the goal of advancing deeper into Ukraine. According to military expert Ivan Kirichevsky, this was evidenced by data on the Russian plans, and the question of time remained key at the beginning of this offensive.
Kirichevsky noted that if Ukrainian forces had not taken retaliatory actions in the Kursk region, the situation could have turned into a disaster for the entire front. The Russian army intended not only to attack positions in the Sumy region, but also to significantly weaken the Ukrainian forces, which could lead to serious consequences for the defense.
The expert also pointed out the significance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in the Kursk region, emphasizing that Ukrainian troops were forced to operate with limited resources. Although the ideal scenario would have been to conduct massive operations in both the east and north, the possibilities for this were limited.
Kirichevsky added that the actions of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region not only prevented the advance of Russian troops on Sumy, but also significantly changed the general course of events. He emphasized that if Ukraine had not launched an operation in the Kursk region, Russian tanks could have already been approaching Kyiv, and the price of the issue would have been too high.
Earlier, Kursor wrote that the Russian Federation failed its counteroffensive in the Kursk region.
Russian troops will not be able to carry out Putin’s order to oust the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Kursk region by mid-October.
