Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will lead prayers in Tehran next Friday, where he will deliver a sermon expected to be key to shaping Iran’s strategy towards Israel, according to Iranian state media cited by the New York Times.
Khamenei rarely holds Friday prayers, doing so only in emergency situations.
He last served in this role in 2020, when Iran responded to the killing of General Qasem Soleimani by firing ballistic missiles at a US base in Iraq. The operation was authorized by US President Donald Trump and was seen as a response to Iran’s growing influence in the region and its actions against American interests. Soleimani’s killing caused widespread international outcry, heightening tensions between Iran and the United States and leading to Iran’s vows of revenge. In response to his death, Iran launched missile attacks on American bases in Iraq.
Previously, Kursor reported that according to information received from Israeli sources and several American officials, there is a possibility that Iran could launch an attack on Israel within the next few hours.
The Israeli military confirmed that the US had warned them of the potential threat. Three Israeli officials said the upcoming attack plans to use drones and missiles to target targets in Israel.
One US official pointed to the possibility of using ballistic missiles, while another source was unable to provide details of the planned attack. Iran could target three military air bases, as well as an intelligence center north of Tel Aviv that was evacuated the day before, the officials said.
