2024 Futsal World Cup: A realism-themed vigil for the Atlas Lions

In statements to the press on Sunday on the sidelines of their last training session before their match on the first day of Group E, the Moroccan players, while showing themselves to be ambitious, seem to fully appreciate the difficulty of winning in such a competition.

“For us, all the teams participating in the World Cup are important and all the matches are similar,” emphasizes national team player Soufiane Charraoui.

“We do not underestimate any opponent. We will give 100% and we will play tomorrow with the intention of winning,” he said, while noting that one should not rely on the results of the friendly preparation matches, which are completely outside the context of the World Cup.

“We are preparing properly. Of course, we played in friendly matches against teams close to Tajikistan, but the context of the World Cup is different, given what is at stake,” he warned.

The player said he was aware of the magnitude of the mission, but said the national team is determined to do better than the last edition.

“We know that we carry the hopes of an entire country and we have the will to sign a good run. During the last World Cup, the Moroccan team was among the eight best. Now, we aspire to do better and bring the Cup to the country, even if it is an arduous task,” he said.

The same goes for his teammate Anas Dahani, for whom the first match is always difficult, but thanks to the harmony of the group and good preparation, the mission can be accomplished in good conditions.

“The instructions of coach Hicham Dguig and the advice of our experienced teammates will be of great help to us in meeting the expectations of the Moroccans and making a good start to the competition,” he said.

“During our preparations, we played friendly matches against multiple futsal schools, to prepare ourselves for the different styles of play we will face,” he said, assuring that the new elements of the team are integrating perfectly.

“Our team has budding players who are integrating smoothly into the group thanks to the help of seasoned players and the coach,” he assured.

The Moroccan team, which arrived in Tashkent on September 2 to give itself enough time to acclimatize, will play in Group E, which is made up of the teams from Portugal, Panama and Tajikistan.
