2024 Futsal World Cup: “There are things to adjust and strengths to take advantage of” (Dguig)
Tashkent – “There are things to adjust and several strong points to take advantage of for the next outings,” said the coach of the Moroccan futsal team, Hicham Dguig, Thursday in Tashkent, after the victory of the Atlas Lions against Panama (6-3), for the 2nd day of group E of the World Cup–2024 in Uzbekistan.
“Today Panama played mainly in our zone. So we let them play and due to the lack of experience of some players, there was confusion and mistakes,” Dguig told the press.
Explaining the difference in level between the Panama team heavily beaten by Portugal (10-1) on the first day and the one that played against Morocco, the national coach stressed that “against the title holder, Panama stuck to its zone, leaving the ball to its opponent. In addition, it suffered from a lack of balance.”
For the Moroccan technician, the important thing is to qualify early, in a competition where all the teams came to win, welcoming the qualification “from the second match, without calculations”.
Regarding the next match against Portugal, Dguig believes that mental strength will be decisive in deciding which team will take the lead in the group.
“Morocco and Portugal know each other well. The gap between the two teams is not technical, but rather mental and psychological,” he said, expressing the hope that his protégés can play without pressure and with confidence.
