2024 Olympics: Soufiane El Bakkali’s Historic Feat Celebrated by the African Union
Addis Ababa – Moroccan Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali was celebrated by the African Union (AU) after his gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In a message on [Date], the AU welcomed the performance of the Moroccan star of world athletics who became the first athlete to retain his Olympic title since the Finn Volmari Iso-Hollo, who achieved it at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games.
“The African Union celebrates Moroccan star Soufiane El Bakkali who achieved a historic performance by becoming the first man to successfully defend his 3000m steeplechase title since 1936!” the message read, which was illustrated with a photo of the Moroccan celebrating his victory with the national flag.
Now a double Olympic and reigning world champion, El Bakkali won the 3000m steeplechase final at the Stade de France on Wednesday with a time of 08:06.
The African Union also celebrated through messages on [Date] several other African champions for their various achievements during the Paris Olympics.
