jpnn.com – PARIS – Kevin Durant was the star of the United States on matchday 1 of the Group C qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s basketball.
Facing Serbia at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, Paris, Sunday (28/7) evening WIB, the US crushed Serbia 110-84 and Durant scored the most points, 23 points.
The United States, the defending Olympic champions, were slow to get going against Serbia, which was bolstered by Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.
However, Durant and his friends were still able to lead in Q1 25-20, then continued to lead, leading 33-29 in Q2, 26-16 in Q3, and 26-19 in the final quarter.
The win puts the US at the top of Group C, followed by South Sudan who beat Puerto Rico 90-79. On matchday 2, the US will face South Sudan, while Serbia will host Puerto Rico.
In the other pool, Australia leads Group A, Germany tops Group B.
Eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, namely the group winners and runners-up, plus the two best third-placed finishers overall. (oly/jpnn)
