The panel of experts has recommended immediate demolition and reconstruction of 20,453 damaged flats in Chennai.

In Tiruvottiyur, Chennai, on December 27, a cottage replacement board building collapsed and 24 houses were leveled. More than 2,000 people lived in the 336 houses in the apartment building.

In one block there were 24 apartments collapsing. Therefore, it is necessary to immediately inspect 17 thousand 734 flats under the remaining 62 projects, said the order issued by the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Urban Housing Development Board (Cottage Replacement Board) M. Govindarao.

The Board appoints technical evaluation committees to consider public safety and emergencies. It was also informed that an expert from Anna University will be present in the 5 committees set up for this purpose.

In this case, the Anna University Geology and Architecture team inspected the collapsed building and other buildings in the apartment at the Cottage Replacement Board apartment.

A team of geologists led by Professor Mutharam and a team of researchers including Stalin and Kopperundevi personally inspected the quality of sand in the residential complex.

The sand samples taken from the building ruins were taken away by the inspection team for analysis. They submitted their research report.

Accordingly, at the end of the study, a panel of experts recommended to the Urban Habitat Development Board that 20,453 damaged dwellings in Chennai be demolished.
