21 degree courses are not suitable for government jobs

CHENNAI: The Higher Education Department has clarified that 21 degree courses offered in various higher education institutions will not be accepted as educational qualifications for government jobs.

Universities introduce various new courses in higher education to keep up with current technological developments. Graduates from these courses also apply for government jobs. There is a problem in verifying their certificates. Thus, the Higher Education Department has decided which degree courses are equivalent to the existing courses and is publishing the details thereof.

Accordingly, 21 courses offered by various universities have been declared non-equivalent to the educational qualification for government jobs. The order issued by the Secretary of Higher Education Department, Mr. Karthikeyan: M.Sc Mode (Applied) Chemistry offered by Coimbatore College of Technology, Bharatiyar University, M.Sc Organic Chemistry from Tirupati Sri Venkateswara University, Trichy National College M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry, Banaras IIT and Varanasi Hindu University. M.Tech Industrial Chemistry offered by Bharathidasan University’s M.Sc.Life Science is not equivalent to M.Sc.Chemistry. They cannot apply for government jobs with MSc chemistry qualification.

MA Linguistics offered by Chidambaram Annamalai University will not be accepted as equivalent to MA English course. Also, Goa Univ., Tirupati Sri Venkateswara Univ. and Bangalore University. BA English awarded will not be considered equivalent to educational qualification for government jobs. Also, Madras University. B.Com Corporate Secretariship offered by Alagappa University M.Com Corporate Secretariship is not equivalent to its parent courses B.Com, M.Com.

Also, Trichy Bharathidasan University’s MS Information and Applications (Part Time) course is not equivalent to MSc Computer Science, VIT University’s MSc Electronics course, MSc Physics. B.Sc Electronics from Alagappa University, B.Sc Physics & Information Technology from EMG Yadav Women’s College, B.Sc Science from Tirupati Sri Venkateswara University will not be accepted as equivalent to B.Sc Physics qualification for Govt.

The decree also stated that 20 undergraduate and postgraduate courses introduced by various higher education institutions including Puducherry University are suitable for government jobs. Some officials of the higher education department say, “The newly introduced degree courses should have 70 percent of the subjects in the curriculum of the respective original courses. Only then they will be treated as equivalent to the original course and taken into account for educational qualification for government jobs. Based on that, the current list has been published,” he said.
