CHENNAI: In the hearing meeting on the Pena monument, 22 people expressed support and 12 people opposed, according to a note related to the meeting proceedings.

To commemorate the late former chief minister Karunanidhi’s literary prowess, the Tamil Nadu government is trying to build a pen-shaped monument in the Bay of Bengal behind his memorial at the Marina beach at a cost of Rs 81 crore. A public consultation meeting for the construction of this monument was held on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board under the leadership of District Collector S. Amritajyothi and Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Kannan on 31st January at Kalaivanar Arena in Chennai.

Executives of various political parties, representatives of environmental organizations and fishermen’s organizations participated in this meeting and expressed their opinions. According to the minutes of the meeting, 22 people supported and 12 people opposed the pen memorial. Tamil Nadu Public Works Department is going to submit this consultation report to the Central Government soon.
