India imported 23.4 lakh tonnes of fertilizer last October.

According to government statistics:

Last October, 23.4 lakh tonnes of fertilizers including urea and di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) were imported.

Among the total fertilizer imports, DAP is the highest at 14.70 lakh tonnes and urea at 4.60 lakh tonnes. Murate of Potash (MOP) was imported at 2.36 lakh tonnes and complexes at 1.70 lakh tonnes.

Meanwhile, the domestic production of fertilizers was 36.19 lakh tonnes last October. This is less than the fixed target of 41.54 lakh tonnes for the month.

It was determined that 71.47 lakh tonnes of fertilizer will be required in the month of October. However, it was less than that at 64.28 lakh tonnes and sales were at 53.34 lakh tonnes, the figures said.

Prices of other fertilizers including DAP, apart from urea and ammonia, have increased in October compared to last year in the global market, data showed.
