The Government Procurement Advisory Committee has approved two procurement proposals including the import of 60,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer against two separate proposals from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The total cost will be 236 crore 3 lakh 76 thousand taka.

On Wednesday (September 18) in the afternoon in the meeting room of the Secretariat’s Cabinet Division, Finance and Trade Advisor Dr. The proposals were approved in the committee meeting chaired by Salehuddin Ahmed. Committee members and senior officers were present in the meeting.

According to the sources of the meeting, the approval proposal for the import of 30000 MT (10%+) bulk granular urea fertilizer in the 1st lot from Saudi Arabia has been approved. With the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held on June 11, 2024, an agreement was signed for the import of 540,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia through a state contract in the fiscal year 2024-25. According to the agreement with Saudi Arabia, the cost of 30000 mt (10%+) bulk granular urea fertilizer in the 1st lot will be 327.83 US dollars per mt as 98 lakh 34 thousand 900 US dollars equivalent to 118 crores in Bangladeshi currency. A proposal has been submitted for tentative approval of import for Rs.88 lakhs.

In the meeting, the committee approved the import of 30 thousand metric tons (10%+) bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar in 2nd lot through state contract. With the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting, an agreement was signed to import 5 lakh 10 thousand MT of urea fertilizer from Qatar through a state-level agreement in the fiscal year 2024-25. According to the agreement with Qatar, the price of fertilizer is fixed at USD 327.83 per MT. The purchase of 30 thousand MT (10%+) bulk granular urea fertilizer in the 2nd lot will cost USD 9.834 thousand 900, equivalent to 118 crores in Bangladeshi currency. 88 thousand rupees.

According to sources, in the meeting, the committee did not approve the purchase proposal for construction of 1 buffer warehouse in Bogra and 1 Naogaon under the project of ‘Construction of 34 buffer warehouses in different parts of the country to facilitate the storage and distribution of fertilizers’.
