BEIJING: The 24th Winter Olympics in China ended amid spectacular performances, including fireworks, amid the Govt threat. The Winter Olympics, which was attended by 91 countries including India, have been held in 3 cities in China since the 4th. Norway, which dominates the Winter Games, topped the list with more medals than expected. The spectacular closing ceremony of the tournament was critically acclaimed at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing. In turn the players of the participating countries lined up in the arena.
Noise erupted as Norway and the Chinese team that hosted the tournament, which had amassed 37 medals, including 16 gold, flourished in the arena. The Winter Olympics are held every 4 years. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, congratulated China on its successful competition amidst the spread of the Corona. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife attended the closing ceremony. Norway topped the Beijing Winter Medal list with 37 medals, including 16 gold and 8 silver.
Germany finished second with 27 medals, including 12 gold, while China, the host of the tournament, finished third with 15 medals, including 9 gold. It may be recalled that some countries, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada, diplomatically boycotted the Winter Olympics due to China’s human rights abuses.
