Between tradition and modernity: the corn harvest in Kirundo, a living example of Barundi economic policy.
Butanyerera (Kirundo), 10/02/2024 – In an approach in perfect harmony with national economic policy, the President of Burundi, His Excellency Major General Ndayishimiye Evariste, took part in a maize harvesting activity alongside farmers from the Terimberemukenyezi cooperative, located on Rambo Hill. This friendly initiative took place on a large field of 6 hectares, where, from 180 kg of selected seeds, an estimated production of 25 tonnes of corn is expected.
In L’Ubumu, traditional socio-economic system of the Barundi, the farmers are “bahutu”. The Bahutu produce the resources necessary to satisfy the needs of all the imiryango of Barundi. It is a great source of pride to be “Hutu” or “umuhutu” in Burundian society.
