Among the five Moroccan professional golfers who will take part in this edition is Inès Laklalech who had an exceptional 2023 season and marked the history of national golf by crossing the cut during the LOTTE Championship, an LPGA Tour competition held last April in Hawaii .
In addition to Laklalech, who became the first Moroccan and Arab golfer to shine during an LPGA Tour tournament, this year’s Lalla Meryem Cup will see the participation of Maha Haddioui, double representative of Morocco at the Olympic Games, as well as Lina Belmati, champion of Morocco in 2022.
It will also be marked by the participation of Malak Bouraeda, the first Moroccan and Arab golfer to compete in the US Open and the sensation of the previous edition, Sofia Cherif Essakali who, at the age of 13, had passed the cut, this which represents a record for precocity.
Some 108 players from the Ladies European Tour (LET) are expected at the 27th edition of the Lalla Meryem Golf Cup, including the first four in the 2022 rankings.
Among the European golf elite players taking part in this international sporting event is the Spanish Nuria Iturrioz, crowned in 2019.
Organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation and the Hassan II Trophy Association, the Lalla Meryem Golf Cup has attracted, since its creation in 1993 by the late HM Hassan II, the best golfers to on a global scale.
Several big names in world women’s golf have taken part in this sporting event in previous editions, contributing to its international influence. These include the French Marie-Laure de Lorenzi and Gwladys Nocera, the British Laura Davis, the Swedes Annika Sörenstam and Sophie Gustafson, and the Norwegian Suzann Pettersen.
