28 hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) will be built in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.
As Day.Az reports, this is provided for in the “National Strategy for the Effective Use of Water Resources” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the National Strategy, the rational use of water resources and hydropower potential of the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions will be ensured through the introduction of smart water supply systems.
“The construction of 28 hydroelectric power stations will be completed, the hydropower potential of surface waters will be assessed, and a compact power station will be created taking into account the capabilities of hydroelectric power stations, including hydropower facilities. The possibilities of medical, coastal and water tourism will be assessed. Further improvement of the supply of drinking water to the population, meeting the needs for irrigation water for agricultural areas and the efficient use of water resources will allow for inter-basin transfer of water. Thus, more than 300 thousand hectares of land in economic regions will be provided with irrigation water,” the National Strategy states.
