During the Easter holidays, there were 372 traffic accidents that left 28 dead and 237 injured, according to the preliminary balance of the Civil Protection Directorate.

In the Summer 2024 Plan, which closed operationally yesterday and administratively today at noon, 100,000 people have worked focused on six areas, one of them was the prevention of road accidents.

“The road accident rate numbers have not been so uneven compared to last year’s statistics. In fact, what we have had are four more accidents,” said Luis Alonso Amaya, director of Civil Protection.

As of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, the 28 reported deaths exceeded the 20 recorded last year.

Regarding the causes of the accidents that left people dead and injured, the official report details that due to lane invasion there were 62 injuries and two deaths.

Due to inappropriate speed there were 39 injuries and 13 deaths, due to distracted driving 37 injuries and nine deaths, due to disrespect for traffic signs, police inspections confirmed 33 injuries and one death, and due to drunkenness there were 19 injuries and not one death.
