Israeli military expert Yigal Levin noted that, despite criticism in the Western media, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully hold positions in the Kursk region, pinning down significant Russian forces.
The operation has been going on for two months now, and, according to Levin, this indicates its justification. The Ukrainian bridgehead forces Russia to maintain a large group of 30 to 50 thousand people in the region, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces number about 10 thousand fighters.
The expert also added that with the onset of autumn rains, the likelihood of ousting Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region decreases, and if the Ukrainian group can hold out until winter, then, according to Levin, it can turn into a powerful defense unit by spring.
Levin emphasized that Russian troops are actively using aviation and artillery, striking villages in the Kursk region. However, he pointed out that otherwise these shells and bombs would have been aimed at Ukrainian populated areas.
Earlier, Kursor reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may soon leave the Kursk region.
According to BILD analyst Julian Röpke, Ukrainian forces may leave the Kursk region in the coming weeks or months.
He noted that the Russian army continues to advance from the western direction, approaching the villages of Lyubimovka and Novoivanovka, and has already knocked out the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the last settlement, located near the regional center of Korenevo.
In addition, Russian troops are compressing the Ukrainian bridgehead from the east, returning the villages of Borki and Sleeping under control. Currently, there are battles for the village of Plekhovo, where Russian forces have advanced 13 kilometers since the start of the counteroffensive.
Röpke also noted that, despite the successes of the Russian troops, the battle for Sudzha – the only city that the Ukrainian Armed Forces control in the Kursk region – has not yet begun. He expects the outcome of this battle to be decided in the coming weeks or months as Russian forces slowly but surely advance towards the border, pushing out Ukrainian troops.
