La SSecretariat of Citizen Security (SCC) carried out operations in the 16 mayoralties against the theft of auto parts where they were apprehended 284 people, with Benito Juárez being the district with the highest number of arrests.
According to the agency, during the first six months of 2024a greater number of patrols were implemented in specific locations, in addition to reinforcing the presence of officers to reduce this crime, which resulted in more than 250 arrests.
The municipality with the highest number of referrals was Benito Juarezwith 88 and 100 detainees, followed by Cuauhtémocwith 64 referrals and 73 arrests and Gustavo A. Maderowith 20 referrals and 23 arrests.
In Iztapalapa 16 referrals were made and 21 people were arrested, Venustiano Carranza14 referrals and 16 arrests; in Azcapotzalco There were 8 referrals and the same number of arrests.
In Coyoacan there were 11 arrests, in Tlalpan, 8; in Iztacalco and Miguel Hidalgo 4 each; in Alvaro Obregon, 6; in Magdalena Contreras, 3; in Xochimilco, 4; in Cuajimalpa, 2 and in Tlahuac only one arrest.
As far as periods are concerned, March was the month with the most arrests, with 66 referrals of 74 people who possibly committed auto parts theft.
The SSC highlighted two cases, one of them is the apprehension of two men in Magdalena Conteras, On March 24, after officers were alerted by suspects who were storing tires in the trunk of a car while a pickup truck was on brick walls, they were arrested as they could not prove their legal origin.
Also, on May 8, 2024, in Gustavo A. MaderoTwo men were arrested in possession of a pair of skulls, after a woman was alerted when she saw two men flashing the taillights of their truck.
