Oleg Tsarev and Igor Dmitriev, former Ukrainian politicians who defected to Russia in 2014, found themselves in the spotlight after they published false information about a terrorist attack in Turkey on their Telegram channels.
They stated that one of the perpetrators of the attack was a certain Farah Karim, associated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). However, it turns out that Farah Karim is a fictional character from the Call of Duty video game series.
Oleg Tsarev has already deleted his post, realizing the mistake, but Igor Dmitriev’s message is still available in his channel. Dmitriev argued that the woman’s participation in the attack was “demonstrative” and detailed the role of women in the Kurdish YPG self-defense forces.
“Women confidently wielding weapons is a feature of the Kurdish People’s Self-Defense Forces YPG. Approximately a third of the units were composed of women, and they had a separate name YPJ, but participated in the fighting as equals. In this way, the Kurds from the PKK proved that their women had the same status as men. Unlike Muslim groups,” Dmitriev wrote.
However, the real Farah Karim does not exist; she is the heroine of the Call of Duty game series, where she acts as the founder of the liberation forces of Urzykstan, a fictional country.
Let us recall that on October 23, a terrorist attack occurred on the territory of the TUSAŞ aircraft plant in Ankara. As a result of the explosion and subsequent attack by militants, five people were killed and 22 more were injured. Two terrorists were eliminated. In response to the attack, the Turkish military carried out strikes on PKK-linked targets in Iraq and Syria.
