The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami, addressed a letter to the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, expressing his condolences for the deaths of soldiers killed during the recent Israeli strike on Iranian territory.
“I express my condolences to you, the courageous commanders and army personnel, as well as the respected families of the victims,” he said.
He emphasized that “the Zionist regime’s criminal actions aimed at killing failed thanks to the readiness of Iranian air defense systems.” According to the general, this was evidence of Israel’s mistakes and its weakness on the battlefield.
Earlier, “Cursor” talked about the consequences of the attack on Iran: ex-Israeli intelligence officer Mossad Oded Elam, in an interview with 103FM radio, noted that the operation was complex and carefully thought out. However, according to Elam, Israel has refrained from attacking Iran’s oil infrastructure, including the strategic island of Kharg, through which up to 250 million barrels of oil pass annually, which is about 10% of China’s imports. This fact, as Elam emphasized, is of key importance not only for Iran, but also for the world economy.
Regarding the targets of the strike, Elam added that despite the statement about the inviolability of nuclear facilities, the attack was aimed at a military facility in Parchin. Here Iran, according to the Mossad, is conducting experiments aimed at developing nuclear weapons. During the operation, he said, significant damage was caused to this facility, which became known back in 2018, when the Mossad gained access to secret Iranian archives. Elam noted that, contrary to statements by the Iranian side, the damage was significant.
Elam also pointed out that Iran is currently going through one of its most difficult periods since the end of the Iran-Iraq War in 1988, especially given its weak missile defense system and the lack of modern defenses such as Arrow missiles.
In his opinion, it is still difficult for Iran to find a way to adequately respond to the attack: the damage caused by the attack turned out to be more serious than expected, and its scale is only beginning to be realized.
Elam stressed that Iran has few options left to respond. One of the main allies, Hezbollah, has almost lost its power, and support from Yemeni partners faces tough US defense, which greatly reduces the Iranian side’s options.
