A large part of the voters of both formations are people who previously voted for “Revival” or with “I do not support anyone”
“Velichie” again turned out to be the surprise of the elections, after it fell below the 4 percent barrier at the last moment and 29 votes fell short of Ivelin Mihailov’s party becoming a parliamentary force again. 3.999% turned out to be the final result of “Majesty” in the battle for the 51st National Assembly, the data from the 100% counting of the sectional records showed.
However, a new leader (old deputy) – Radostin Vassilev – enters the 51st National Assembly. Although he himself has experience behind the parliamentary banks, this time his debut is a party one – of his MECH formation.
Vassilev celebrated his victory like his former leader Slavi Trifonov in July 2021, when even before the election results were out, he announced that he would not form a coalition with anyone and would propose his own cabinet. Already on Monday at noon, when not all the votes had been processed and MECH was on the verge of being eliminated, the leader gathered the media in Sofia and announced his plans to propose an anti-GERB and DPS government. After that, he expressed his party’s willingness to take over the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to fulfill its promises from the pre-election campaign to reduce crime and corruption. Vassilev himself hinted that he is ready to become interior minister.
He made his request for the new government at 99.71% processed SIC protocols. At that time, they allocated a seat in the parliament to Velichie as well. However, the final results were uploaded to the CEC website on Monday evening, and so the party of Ivelin Mihailov ended up below the line.
Thus, 29 votes, equal to the remainder of one hundredth, did not reach Velichie to enter the National Assembly. The party gathered almost the same support as in the previous election – 97,430 now, up from 99,862 on June 9. Probably the current result would be enough to enter in June, but the turnout on October 27 was several percent higher and entering the parliament is more difficult.
This time, the leader of the list was Mihailov himself, who had promised not to give up his seat if he received a mandate. But apparently it will stay in the village of Neofit Rilski at its “Historical Park” attraction.
A large part of MECH and Velichie voters are people who previously voted for “Vazrazhdane” or “I do not support anyone”. Vasilev’s party has a high share of the youth vote, over a fifth of all those who voted for it are between the ages of 18 and 29. This is clear from an analysis of the demographic breakdowns from the exit poll of “Trend”, commissioned by “Nova Broadcasting Group” and “Euronews”.
Men have a larger share than women among MECH voters, the most votes come from the regional centers. It is interesting that about 30% of their vote comes from three groups of 10% each – who voted on June 9 for “Vazrazhdane”, for PP-DB and did not vote.
“Velichie” also has a surge of votes from “Vazrazhdane” – 15.4%, and from non-voters – 7.5%. On the other hand, 8.9% of those who cast ballots in the last election for Ivelin Mihailov’s party have now supported Kostadin Kostadinov’s formation. The majority of “Velichie” voters are among the 40-59-year-olds.
