The aim of this year’s 2nd Archangelos Run, which will take place next Sunday in Archangelos, is to stimulate the idea of mass sports, to highlight the place as a center of sporting and social activities and to include it in the SEGAS calendar.
The details of the organization were presented on Wednesday afternoon during the press conference organized in the hall of the Spiritual Center of Agios Savvas, in the presence of representatives of the Organizing Committee, the Municipality of Rhodes, the Local Council of Archangelos, the Volunteer Samaritans, the Cultural Association “the Aithonas”, as well as the Greek Police.
The 2nd Archangel Run includes races of 1 kilometer (for Primary School children), 5 and 10 kilometers, with the route of the first being defined from the community’s Heroes’ Square to the exit junction to Malona and the other two from the same starting point to node of the Stegens.
The start is scheduled for 10 am, the participation of the people is expected to be massive (the messages about the participations are more than encouraging) and everyone is sure that the people will enjoy an event that will fully achieve its goals her.
It is noted that the registration of athletes will be available up to half an hour before the start of each match at the secretariat.

Savvas Diakonikolas
The technical director of the event, representative and coach of Daphne Rhodes, Savvas Diakonikolas, talked about upgrading the event, as the 10,000 meters was added to the 5,000 meters event, setting as a big goal its establishment and their inclusion, from next year , on the SEGAS calendar.
After expressing his satisfaction with the fact that all the agencies are participating, he thanked the members of the Organizing Committee for their daily work so that people can enjoy a perfect event.
Manolis Varelis
After conveying the congratulations of the mayor of Rhodes, Alexandros Koliadis, the deputy mayor, Giorgos Varelis, underlined that the Municipality of Rhodes will continue to support efforts such as the Archangel Run and the Path of Hope, hoping that in time it will be able to help more, citing the difficult financial situation that the municipal authority is currently facing.
“I believe that this year’s event will be even more successful and with greater participation, I urge everyone to take part in the Archangel Run and enjoy it,” said the deputy mayor.
Christos Ikoutas
The president of the Archangelos Local Council, Christos Ikoutas, expressed his thanks to the employees of the Municipality and the Greek Police for creating the conditions that will lead to a smooth and safe event, while also congratulating the members of the Organizing Committee, Iakovos Damianos and Tsambika Kontogiannou.
In addition, he thanked the sponsors and especially Panagiotis Platis and Nikos Geronikolas, while he did not fail to highlight the work of the previous local authority, which connected the sports activities in Archangelos with the Community Grocery Store.
“We will do everything to be as close as possible. These movements absorb our youth, push them towards sports and set an example of selfless giving”, emphasized Christos Ikoutas.
Michalis Plygos
For a very well organized event, which promotes social solidarity and sportsmanship, Deputy Mayor for Sports Michalis Plygos spoke.
After wishing every success and promising the support of the municipal authority, he wished that the Archangel Run would be the guide for other events as well.
Dimitris Galatas
Archangelos Run will cover the well-trained staff of the Volunteer Samaritan Corps of the Hellenic Red Cross, with the leader of the corps, Dimitris Galatas, marking their presence:
“The Hellenic Red Cross, a voluntary movement, could not be absent from such a voluntary organization, with the main purpose of the safety of those fighting, offering first aid in cooperation with the EKAV rescuers. Our motto is to be next to people in all aspects of social contribution, social contribution to first aid and natural disasters”.
Giorgos Argyrakis (vice president of the Archangelos Cultural Association “o Aithonas”)
The Archangelos Cultural Association “o Aithonas” actively declares its presence in the Archangelos Run. Its vice-president Giorgos Argyrakis welcomed Sunday’s organization, stressing that the cultural association supports every action that takes place in the place, highlighting on the occasion its priorities, such as the recording of the traditional music of Archangelos, the creation of a theater workshop and the operation of a choir and dance workshops.
Panagiotis Kripintiris
For the taking of all the necessary measures by the Greek Police, so that the Archangel Run can develop in conditions of absolute security, assured the representative of A.T. Archangelou Panagiotis Kripindiris.
It is noted that during the press conference the greeting of the Deputy Regional Governor for Sports Akis Delaportas, who was unable to attend due to his obligations to the Economic Committee of the Region, was also conveyed.
