A spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Health told “Al Arabiya” channel today, Monday, that the number of monkeypox cases in the Kingdom has reached 3 cases.
The spokesman added that the three people infected with monkeypox in Saudi Arabia were returning from Europe.

On July 14, the Saudi Ministry of Health announced the detection of the first case of monkeypox for a person returning from outside the Kingdom, in the city of Riyadh.
The Ministry reassured everyone that the case is subject to medical care in accordance with the approved health procedures, in addition to that, all contacts were counted.
The Ministry affirmed that it will continue its monitoring and follow-up work on the developments of monkeypox disease and announce in full transparency about any cases that are monitored, indicating its readiness and ability to deal with any development of the disease.
The Ministry of Health recommends that everyone follow health instructions, especially during travel, through its official channels, as well as the Public Health Authority (Weqaya) or contact the Center (937) in case of any inquiry regarding monkeypox disease.
The World Health Organization launched the highest level of alert Saturday in an attempt to contain an outbreak of monkeypox, which has so far infected about 17,000 people in 74 countries, mostly in Europe.

The first cases of monkeypox in humans were discovered in 1970, and it is less severe and contagious than the human smallpox that was eradicated in 1980.
The disease is transmitted through close contact, and the patient usually recovers without intervention after two or three weeks.
The disease, which until now was endemic in a few African countries, appears in the form of a rash that can be accompanied by bouts of fever, sore throat or pain in the lymph nodes.
