Εγκεφαλικό θάνατο έδειξαν τα τεστ που διενεργήθηκαν στον 3χρονο Άγγελο, που εδώ και μία εβδομάδα βρίσκεται στη ΜΕΘ του Πανεπιστημιακού Γενικού Νοσοκομείου Ηρακλείου (ΠΑΓΝΗ) στην Κρήτη.
Το παιδάκι, που έπεσε θύμα άγριου ξυλοδαρμού από την 26χρονη μητέρα του και τον 44χρονο σύντροφό της, οι οποίοι βρίσκονται κρατούμενοι στις φυλακές Κορυδαλλού, υποβλήθηκε σε όλες τις απαραίτητες εξετάσεις που προβλέπονται βάσει πρωτοκόλλου, προκειμένου να διαπιστωθεί αν έχει εγκεφαλική λειτουργία.
Σήμερα έγιναν τα τελευταία τεστ και όλα είναι αρνητικά.
Το παιδί είναι και επίσημα «εγκεφαλικά νεκρό», όπως επιβεβαίωσε ο διοικητής του ΠΑΓΝΗ, Γιώργος Χαλκιαδάκης.

«Αν και δεν είχαμε πολλές αμφιβολίες, αλλά θέλαμε να έχουμε και την τελική επιβεβαίωση η οποία δυστυχώς είναι θετική», λέει ο ίδιος στο MEGA.
«Η γιαγιά ήδη έχει εκδηλώσει την επιθυμία να δοθούν όργανα του παιδιού. Απλούστατα, υπάρχουν ορισμένες διαδικασίες οι οποίες πρέπει να εφαρμοστούν έτσι ώστε να είμαστε σίγουροι, δεν είναι τόσο απλό», σημειώνει.
«Τόσο η γιαγιά όσο και ο παππούς του παιδιού, μαζί με τη νονά του, τουλάχιστον έτσι μας είπαν, ότι επιθυμούν», καταλήγει.

Dr. Lena Dimitriou: Angelos was the victim of a terrible assault by his mother and her partner. I can’t imagine the pain and suffering his family is enduring. It’s a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the devastating consequences of violence against children.
Time.news Editor: The hospital announced that Angelos’ grandma has expressed her wish to donate his organs. Can you tell us about the process of organ donation in cases like this?
Dr. Lena Dimitriou: This is a very sensitive and complex situation. An organ donation – what we call “Donation after brain Death” needs to follow strict medical and legal protocols. A multidisciplinary team of doctors carefully assesses the situation to ensure brain death is confirmed beyond any doubt and that the organs are suitable for transplantation.The family has to give consent, understanding the implications fully.

Dr. Lena Dimitriou: Tragically, cases like Angelos’ highlight the urgent need to improve child protection.
