Prime Minister Modi today inaugurated a 30 feet bronze statue of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju at Bhimavaram.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the year-long 125th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. State Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and others participated in the programme. Later, the Prime Minister also unveiled a 30 feet tall bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju. Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said that the 125th birth anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju and the centenary of Rampa Rebellion will be celebrated throughout the year. Alluri Sitarama Raju is a symbol of Indian culture, tribal people, bravery, thought, dignity.

Today’s program reflects the commitment to make everyone aware of the heroic deeds of our freedom fighters. The freedom struggle is not just the history of a few years, a few regions or a few people. Our liberation movement history is a symbol of the strength of our diversity, our culture and our unity as a nation. Our new India must be the India of the dreams of the freedom fighters. An India with equal opportunities for all the poor farmers, labourers, backward and tribals.

In the last eight years, the government has worked tirelessly for the welfare of the tribal communities of the country. Tribal art and skills are getting a new identity through the Skill India movement. Let’s support local products’ has turned tribal artistic skills into a source of income. In the new India today there are new opportunities, fields, ways of thinking and possibilities. Our youth are taking the responsibility to realize this potential. He said that Andhra Pradesh is the land of heroes and patriots.
