30 times larger than Earth

WASHINGTON: The Sun, the largest star in our Milky Way galaxy, has been undergoing many changes in recent years. In that way, a giant ‘hole’ has appeared on the surface of the Sun. Scientists call these holes coronal holes. This hole is said to be 30 times bigger than Earth.

NASA scientists say about this, “Because of this hole, 1.8 million times the amount of solar wind will reach the Earth. South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand can feel this. Heat rays from these explosions can endanger radio communications, spacecraft, and astronauts. “Also, through this hole, aurora borealis may appear in additional places on the surface of the Earth.”

These coronal holes are the most common on the Sun, but they often appear toward the Sun’s poles, where their solar wind is thrown into space. But as the Sun prepares for its 11-year solar transition, the holes are more likely to appear near the Sun’s equator, said Matthew Owens, professor of space physics at the University of Reading.

Earlier in February, scientists reported that a large chunk had broken off from the sun’s surface and was swirling around its north pole like a superstorm. At this stage, a second hole is currently forming in the sun.
