The region has sent out letters to 66,000 nurses and 6,000 workers in dental care, offering free accommodation and travel to Norrbotten for those who can imagine a summer job there. The goal is to recruit 100 people and currently, 300 people have come forward. Recruitment for the summer is in full swing in many regions. Several regions are already promising tens of thousands of kroner to regional employees who postpone their vacation and work during the summer months. In Region Norrbotten, in addition to offering close to 25,000 kroner per shifted holiday week, they are trying to attract staff from southern Sweden through a large recruitment campaign.

The region has sent out letters to 66,000 nurses and 6,000 workers in dental care offering free accommodation and travel to Norrbotten to those who can imagine a summer job in Norrbotten. Among other things, they attract with idyllic pictures of Norrbotten, the midnight sun and the proximity to the mountains and the archipelago.

The letters have reached staff in the metropolitan regions, Mälardalen and Örebro.

– We offer them to bring the family with them and we offer travel and accommodation. We try to attract them with the appeal that Sweden’s best summer jobs are in Norrbotten, says Jonas Sandberg, task manager for the summer campaign at Region Norrbotten.

The region has set a goal that they will recruit 100 people, currently 300 people have come forward who can imagine a job in Norrbotten. But it is not clear if they will start working.

– We are pleased that over 100 people got in touch. You have to be honest and say that maybe not everyone wants to come up from southern Sweden to Norrbotten and work during the summer. But I’m still surprised that so many people wanted to.

Jonas Sandberg thinks that the goal of 100 people was reasonable.

– We tried to do a similar campaign to Kiruna and Gällivare last summer and then we managed to recruit 25-30 summer temps. This year we thought we’d aim higher.

The idea is that the summer temps who come up to Norrbotten will live in the region’s own homes and in cabins on campsites.

– The long-term goal is to recruit staff who want to settle here. We need more people who want to work in healthcare if Norrbotten is to grow.
