A serious episode of mass food poisoning shook the Gimnasio de la Sabana School, located in Madrid, Cundinamarca, during a school event attended by students, parents and teachers. This unfortunate event has revealed possible flaws in food handling and has put the health of the educational community at risk.

What was supposed to be a day of celebration ended in chaos when nearly 300 people, including children and adults, began to show symptoms of food poisoning after eating the food served at the event. Initial hypotheses suggest that the problem was caused by a bad sandwich.

Witnesses told local media how the festive atmosphere quickly turned into an emergency. Attendees began to suffer from stomach upset, nausea, vomiting and dizziness. Authorities acted immediately, mobilizing health personnel to deal with the situation on site. However, due to the severity of the cases, many affected people were transferred to the Santa Matilde Hospital, which is facing a situation of collapse due to the high demand for care.

Doctors have prioritized children, who presented more severe symptoms, including intense abdominal pain. Although an estimated 500 people consumed the same food, approximately 300 have shown critical signs of poisoning. While local health authorities investigate the exact source of the poisoning, the educational community and affected families are demanding answers. A review of the school’s food safety protocols is already underway.

Estiven Ricardo Cruz, one of those affected, told Caracol Ahora about the situation, describing the deplorable state of the sandwiches and the desperation that reigned in the place, with fainting children and the hospital overwhelmed. “They gave us sandwiches in terrible condition. There are many affected children, and I also feel very bad,” he said.
