300,000 attend pro-Palestinian rally in London, according to police
A huge pro-Palestinian demonstration is currently taking place in London, as approximately 300,000 people gather to march through the city center on Saturday. The rally, one of the largest since the Israel-Hamas conflict began about a month ago, saw heavy police presence in central London’s Hyde Park Corner.
Protesters were heard chanting “free, free Palestine” and “ceasefire now,” as well as the slogan “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” The Metropolitan Police arrested 82 counter-protesters who attempted to confront those taking part in the rally in order to prevent a breach of the peace.
Similar pro-Palestinian demonstrations also took place in Brussels and Paris, with thousands of people attending in each city. In the US, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered near President Joe Biden’s home in Delaware, carrying Palestinian flags and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Meanwhile, President Biden was at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia for Veterans Day events, with plans to travel to his Wilmington home later on Saturday. On Friday, about 2,000 people attended a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City, where access to Grand Central Terminal was temporarily closed due to the protests.
