305 nominations for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize

A total of 305 names have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Institute announced today. But the names in the list were not disclosed.

According to Nobel law, the identity of nominees is kept confidential for 50 years. But those eligible to nominate may publish the name of the person or organization they nominate.

This year’s peace prize nominees include Ukrainian President Zelenskyi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg and a Ukrainian group working to establish an international war crimes court.

Jailed Putin opponent and poisoned anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny, journalist and political activist Vladimir Kara Murza and the pro-democracy youth movement Vesna have also been recommended for the peace prize.

Climate activists Greta Thunberg of Sweden, Vanessa Nagate of Uganda, Iranian women’s rights activist Masih Alinejad and her anti-hijab movement My Stealth Freedom, Salvation Army are also believed to be on the list.

In 2016, a maximum of 376 people were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Fewer names have been nominated this year than that.
