Nobel Prizes are awarded every year to outstanding achievers in the fields of science, art, literature, and medicine at the international level. According to the Nobel Institute, a total of 305 names have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
However, the names in the list were not disclosed. According to Nobel law, the identity of nominees is kept confidential for 50 years. But those eligible to nominate may publish the name of the person or organization they nominate.
This year’s peace prize nominees include Ukrainian President Zelenskyi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg and a Ukrainian group working to establish an international war crimes court.
Jailed Putin opponent and poisoned anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny, journalist and political activist Vladimir Kara Murza and the pro-democracy youth movement Vesna have also been recommended for the peace prize.
In 2016, a maximum of 376 people were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. It is noteworthy that slightly fewer names have been nominated this year than that.
