30th Finals: Nadal’s Amazing Numbers

Rafael Nadal reached the final of the Roland Garros today (Friday) after the retirement of Alexander Zebrav, and went on to set a number of incredible achievements. The bull from Mallorca advanced to the 30th Grand Slam final of his career, having won 21 in the past.

  • – This is his 14th final at Roland Garros, having won the previous 13. He holds an incredible balance of 3: 111, 97.3% success, on the clay tournament. Rafa of course has won all-time Roland Garros and Grand Slams. No one has reached 14 finals in the same Grand Slam ever, and the record in a single tournament in a round belongs to Roger Federer (15, Basel tournament).

    Nadal could win two consecutive Grand Slams for the first time since 2010, having won Australia this year. In 2017 and 2019 he won the French Championship and the Capital Countries Championship, but failed to win Wimbledon which is played every year between them.

    – Nadal the fourth player with 130 different tournament finals in a round after Jimmy Connors (164), Roger Federer (157) and Ivan Landel (146). Federer and Djokovic reached 31 Grand Slam finals, Nadal who has won the most finals of both now reached 30. Nadal is the second oldest tennis player to reach the Roland Garros final after William Tilden in 1930.
