Reports that the office of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has moved to Turkey are untrue. A Turkish political source told Reuters about this, adding that members of the group visit the country from time to time.
Türkiye sharply criticizes Israel for its attacks in Gaza and Lebanon and does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.
Several Hamas political figures regularly visit Turkey.
Let’s remember that last month the United States warned Turkey against hosting the Hamas leadership, saying that, in Washington’s opinion, the leaders of the terrorist organization should not live in comfortable conditions.
Asked about reports that some Hamas leaders had moved to Turkey from Qatar, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller would not confirm the reports but said he was unable to dispute them. According to him, Washington will make it clear to the Turkish government that there can no longer be “business as usual” with Hamas.
Miller also said that some Hamas leaders are facing American charges, and Washington believes that these terrorists should be handed over to the United States.
“We do not believe that the leaders of a vicious terrorist organization should live comfortably anywhere, and that certainly includes … a major city of one of our key allies and partners,” Miller said.
