US President-elect Donald Trump’s special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, condemned the large-scale Russian missile attack on Ukraine on Christmas Day.
“Christmas should be a time of peace, but Ukraine was brutally attacked on Christmas Day. Launching large-scale missile and drone attacks on the Lord’s Day is wrong. The world is closely watching the actions of both sides. The United States is more determined than ever to bring peace to the region,” – Kellogg wrote on his X account.
Earlier, in an interview with Fox Business, Kellogg emphasized that Donald Trump seeks to stop the bloodshed and achieve peace in Ukraine, which should be fair and sustainable.
“President Trump is very clear in his intentions: his goal is to stop the killing and bring peace to the region. This is his key international priority, but such a peace must be fair, secure and lasting,” Kellogg said.
He also noted the failure of previous peace initiatives, including the Minsk agreements, and assured that Trump does not plan to follow the ineffective paths of the past.
“He understands very well the importance of relations with both allies and Vladimir Putin. He has all the necessary qualities and determination to see this through. I am confident that this will happen in the foreseeable future,” the representative added.
It is worth recalling that in June 2024, Keith Kellogg, together with Fred Fleitz, who also served on the National Security Council under Trump, presented the president with a plan to resolve Russia’s war in Ukraine. The document proposed linking further US military assistance to Ukraine’s readiness to enter into peace negotiations. The plan was based on the idea of a ceasefire based on the current front lines.
Fred Fleitz said Trump responded positively to the initiative. The plan assumes that the United States will persistently invite Ukraine and Russia to sit down at the negotiating table in order to speed up the achievement of a compromise solution and end the war.
