The operation to eliminate Hamas Politburo leader Ismail Haniyeh not only achieved its goal, but also caused a serious resonance, forcing the Iranian leadership to think about large-scale leaks within its structures. Quds Force commander Ismail Qaani disappeared from view for three weeks, fueling rumors of growing unrest in Tehran.

Channel 12 reports this.

The main question remains who helped the Israeli intelligence services in such a complex and precise operation. Journalist Ronen Bergman identifies three possible groups:

  • Iranian citizens living near the scene.
  • Members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who may have provided information.
  • Hamas members potentially working for Israeli intelligence.

“At the end of the day, there was a bomb in the room. Someone put it there, someone hid it. They will certainly try to solve this case,” Bergman notes.

Suspicions of betrayal

The former head of Israeli military intelligence, Tamir Hayman, also emphasized that such a complex operation was impossible without internal assistance:

“It probably involves some people who betrayed their country or betrayed their mission and collaborated to make this happen,” he said.

Panic in Iranian structures

According to Israeli sources, the operation came as a shock to the leadership of Hamas and Iran. Iranian intelligence agencies have stepped up their investigation, trying to find those who may have been involved in the information leak. This is especially true for individuals who had access to the inner circle of the leaders of Hamas and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Apparently, the operation dealt not only a physical blow to the Hamas leadership, but also seriously undermined trust within Iranian structures, opening the way for new operations of this kind.
