Michael Jackson’s 26-year-old daughter, Paris Jackson, shared a shocking confession. On her Instagram, she talked about her long and dangerous addiction to heroin and alcohol. According to her, for the last five years she has been living soberly and happily.
“Hi, I’m an alcoholic and heroin addict,” Jackson wrote. “Today I celebrate five years of sobriety. I don’t use drugs or alcohol. The words ‘I’m grateful’ cannot express how I feel. This is just the tip of the iceberg.”
She added: “Thanks to sobriety, I can smile, make music, love my dogs and cats. I can feel a broken heart in its entirety, I can cry, I can laugh, I can dance, I can trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it is warm. I realized that life goes on – with or without sobriety. But today I’m happy to be a part of it.”
With this confession, Jackson also posted a video of herself dancing, kissing her fiancé and showing off the tokens she received during her rehab phases. “This is just a small snippet of what sobriety has given me. I can’t believe I almost missed out on all of this. Thanks to everyone who has helped me, whether at the beginning or until now. You know who you are. I owe you my life,” she wrote.
Previously, Paris has repeatedly spoken about her problems with mental health. She talked about suicide attempts, self-harm and difficulties accepting her body. In the 2020 documentary Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn, she admitted that she started self-harming after her father’s death in 2009: “It was a distraction from the emotional pain, turning it into physical pain. This was necessary for control.”
