On Tuesday evening, a masked protester destroyed a wax statue of Benjamin Netanyahu at the Wax Museum in Mexico City.

According to a video shared on social media, a protester covered the statue in red paint and then began smashing the figure’s head with a hammer. A Palestinian flag can be seen lying at the foot of the statue.

The man then said to the camera: “Long live Palestine, long live Sudan, long live Yemen, long live Puerto Rico.”

Recall that in May last year, Mexico filed an “application of intervention” with the International Court of Justice in the case of South Africa against Israel on charges of genocide.

In a statement, Mexico said it “seeks to intervene to express its views on the possible interpretation of the provisions of the convention relevant to this case.”

Mexico, in its statement, noted the “deliberate blocking of access to humanitarian assistance” and the “destruction of cultural heritage” as elements that must be taken into account in the case.

Mexico is a signatory to the Genocide Convention and has the right to intervene in cases where the interpretation of the treaty is being discussed.

The country said that genocide can be committed during armed conflict and that “the essential element of the crime of genocide is the intent of the perpetrator to destroy the target group.”
