32 accused of drug trafficking convicted in Misurata

The Criminal Court issued a verdict convicting thirty-two defendants who deliberately trafficked drugs and psychotropic substances in the city of Misurata.

The Attorney General’s Office issued a statement saying: “In accordance with the campaign carried out by judicial police officers, in implementation of the Public Prosecution’s measures regarding the allocation of premises for managing drug trade in the Al-Qoushi area – Misurata, the Public Prosecution Authority filed a criminal lawsuit against thirty-six defendants.”

The statement added: “After the Misurata Criminal Court completed the investigation procedures of the case, it ruled, in its last session, to convict thirty-four defendants. It sentenced two convicts to sixteen years in prison and fined each of them five thousand dinars, depriving them of their civil rights. It sentenced two convicts to thirteen years in prison and fined each of them five thousand dinars, depriving them of their civil rights. It sentenced ten convicts to ten years in prison and fined each of them five thousand dinars, depriving them of their civil rights. It sentenced seven convicts to eight years in prison and fined each of them three thousand dinars, depriving them of their civil rights. It sentenced two convicts to five years in prison and fined each of them three thousand dinars, depriving them of their civil rights. It sentenced seven convicts to eighteen months in prison and fined each of them one thousand dinars.” Two convicts were sentenced to six months in prison.

According to the statement, “The court acquitted four defendants of the charges against them; and ordered the confiscation of firearms; means of transportation used in the transport and trade of narcotics; psychotropic substances; alcohol; and tools used in their use; and the court ordered the publication of the ruling three times at the expense of the convicted; and obligated them to pay the costs of the lawsuit.”
