An intelligence official from the new regime in Syria reported foiling an attempt by the terrorist group ISIS to carry out an explosion at the Seyda Zainab mosque, located in the vicinity of Damascus. Arab media reported this, Maariv reports.

Western states have expressed concern about the actions of the new Syrian authorities, especially in connection with the appointment of foreign jihadists to key military posts. The ambassadors of the US, France and Germany warned Syrian leaders that such appointments could pose a security risk and damage their international reputation, the sources said.

According to Reuters, at a meeting between US Special Representative Daniel Rubinstein and the de facto head of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Damascus, the US emphasized that these steps complicate diplomatic relations. “These appointments will not help improve their reputation in the United States,” the American official said.

In addition, the issue of bringing in foreign fighters was raised by French and German Foreign Ministers Jean-Noël Barrault and Annalena Berbock during talks with Sharaa on January 3.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the former Minister of Communications of Syria, Muhammad Al-Jalali, revealed details of the last hours of Bashar al-Assad’s rule before his flight. According to Jalali, Assad was in panic due to the mass exodus of his supporters. Upon learning of the 20,000 refugee cars, Assad did not offer help, but only said, “We’ll see what happens tomorrow,” demonstrating his inability to effectively manage the crisis.
