Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced the 322-member Indian squad for the Commonwealth Games starting in Birmingham, England later this month. India’s jumbo team consists of 215 athletes, 107 officials and support staff. The Commonwealth Games are from July 28 to August 8.

In the 2018 Gold Coast Games, India finished third behind Australia and England in the medal hunt. IOA Secretary Rajeev Mehta said that a strong team is being sent to the Commonwealth Games this time and India’s medal hopes in the Shooting Games, although not competitive, are expected to improve from last time.

The Indian contingent will be staying at five Games Villages. Meanwhile, special accommodation has been arranged for the women’s cricket team in Birmingham. The Indian team consists of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chobra, P Sindhu, Mirabhai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohane, Bajrang Punia, Ravikumar Dahiya, Manika Batra, Vinesh Phogat, Tajinderpal Singh, Hima Das and Amit Pankal.

Boxing Federation of India Vice President Rajesh Bandariam is the chief de mission of the team. India will compete in 15 events and four events in the Para category. Most of the team members have already arrived in Birmingham and started training. Olympian Neeraj Chopra will carry the Indian flag at the Games.
