Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting of senior representatives of the BRICS countries on security issues, “34 countries have applied to join the BRICS group.

Putin noted that Russia, as the current chairman of the group, took a responsible approach to organizing joint work within the framework of the association, and therefore Moscow had to work to facilitate the fastest and most efficient integration of the participating countries into all BRICS mechanisms.

“I would like to take this opportunity to tell the leaders of the group that we are waiting for them at the summit in Kazan on October 22-24, where we are expected to objectively discuss the prospects for further building a full-fledged partnership between the BRICS member states,” Putin said.

He added, “It is also expected, during the summit, to approve a package of agreements in various sectors and areas of cooperation,” according to Russia Today.

The annual presidency of the BRICS group was transferred to Russia on January 1 of this year, which began with the addition of new members to the BRICS group, as the group now includes (in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa) Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
