A small glass sculpture by famous artist Jeff Koons was reportedly broken by a visitor who accidentally hit it. The sculpture, worth $42,000 (approx. 34 lakhs), was destroyed. This was a sculpture from Jeff Koons’ famous balloon dog series.

The accident happened during a VIP preview at Art Wynwood in Miami, USA. Koons’ name was inscribed in acrylic painting below the sculpture. “I saw that woman coming there. I also saw him accidentally hitting the sculpture. “Then the sculpture tipped over and fell to the ground and broke into pieces,” art collector and artist Stephen Gamson told the Fox News affiliate in Miami.

He said that he noticed the pieces of the sculpture that had fallen on the ground and saw the young woman hitting him with a broom and immediately informed the owner of the sculpture. The sculpture, 16 inches long and 19 inches tall, was on display at the Bel-Air Fine Art booth. Stephen Gamson added that people immediately gathered and many filmed the incident and circulated it on social media.

How to insure such works of art?

There is art insurance coverage that protects paintings, sculptures and other collections from damage, loss due to theft, etc. According to a report by Paisa Bazaar, the policyholder will be compensated in case such precious artworks are stolen or damaged.

Drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, stamps, coins, watches and books can all be insured in this way. Anyone who owns antique furniture, fine art instruments, musical instruments, statues, and sculptures can use this insurance coverage to protect such precious items from damage and loss. Before insuring such works of art, the policyholder must produce proof of a purchase thereof. This will help determine the correct value.
