Kolkata: Bihar youngster Saqibul Ghani has set a world record in Ranji Trophy cricket. The 22-year-old, who scored 341 against Mizoram, broke the world record for most runs in a first-class debut yesterday. In his debut match for the 2018–19 season, he broke Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rothera’s record of 267 runs. Bihar declared with 686 in the first innings on the strength of Gani’s triple-century.

Debutant Gani reached the crease as the fifth batsman when Bihar, who had batted first, collapsed to 71 for three. He hit 341 off 405 balls with 56 fours and 2 sixes. 236 runs scored through boundaries only. Gani returned after forming a 538-run partnership with Babu Kumar for the fourth wicket.
