3,455 cases today, the lowest since October

by time news

Time.news – – The curve, wide and (too) long, which climbed in early October to scourge Italy with the second and then the third wave of Covid, seems to have almost returned to the starting point.

The parable is closing, looking at the numbers: the 3,455 cases on Monday are the lowest number even since 6 October last. Then the cases were 2,677, but already the next day they increased by a thousand, and then by a thousand again, and then the exponential growth was slowed down only on November 13, a little more than a month later, to the monstrous figure of 40,900 cases in one day .

From there the descent, but it was not over: in February and March the third wave, pushed by the variants, made the numbers soar again: on March 12 the peak with over 26 thousand cases. The third wave was less violent than the second. Vaccines effect? The figures are certainly speaking: to date, the national incidence has collapsed to 78 weekly cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants: the peak in November had exceeded 440.

In short, we are close to the fateful “white” threshold of 50 cases per hundred thousand considered indispensable to return to the contact tracing phase, progressively emerging from that of forced containment, ie closures.

In the last seven days, infections have dropped by 29.4%. The counter-proof lies in the numbers from the hospitals: intensive care, which has been declining for over a month now, has reached 1,754, never so few since 30 October last.

Ordinary hospitalizations just over 12 thousand: the figure for 24 October. The difference, of course, is that at the time it was climbing steeply, today we are in sharp decline.

Resuscitation and routine wards have emptied 19% of their beds in seven days, and are well below their respective risk thresholds.

And the patients still active? Today there are about 323 thousand: on November 22 we had reached 805 thousand.
