35% of SMEs expect to increase their workforce this year

35.1% of the pymes Spanish companies expect to increase their employment in 2023 and 22.6% increase their sales, while only 3.8% expect to reduce their workforce and 4% anticipate that their sales will decrease, according to the ‘2023 SME Report’, prepared for him General Council of Economists of Spain (CGE) and the Foundation for the Strategic Analysis and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (Faedpyme).

According to the study, for 85% of SMEs both high energy costs and inflation are a clear problem to deal with. In addition, the lack of qualified personnel is a problem for 78% of SMEs, and high interest rates for 66% of these companies.

Also for half of the SMEs it is a problem or difficulty to assume the costs of sustainability (52%), digital transformation (49%), being innovative (45%), organization and management (41%), delinquency (38%) and the cybersecurity (37%).

Regarding the proposals made by SMEs to improve their competitiveness, it is worth noting the need to reduce the tax burden, greater aid to undertake investments, reduce business contributions to social security, greater dissemination of the aid that exists to support to SMEs by the administration and, finally, greater advice for SMEs.
