Dhaka: A three-storey boat caught fire in Bangladesh, killing 37 people. 100 people were injured. The death toll is expected to rise as many of the injured are in critical condition. The boat, Obijan 10, was traveling from Dhaka to Barguna when it crashed into a river near Jalakati in southern Bangladesh yesterday morning. The three-story boat was on fire as it sailed down the river. Panicked, some of the passengers jumped into the river. Some of those who jumped thus drowned. The search for the missing continues. The maximum number of passengers on board was 310, but the boat was carrying more than 500 people at the time of the accident. The initial conclusion was that the fire had spread from the boat’s engine room. The fire was brought under control for about 5 hours. Police have said they will investigate the incident further.
