An incident occurred in Colorado, USA, where about 100 spectators who were watching an air show in the scorching heat received emergency treatment for heat-related illness.
According to the Associated Press on the 19th (local time), the Colorado Springs Fire Department announced that about 100 spectators outdoors at the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show held at the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport on the 17th showed symptoms of heatstroke.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, Colorado, issued a heat wave advisory for the area on the afternoon of the 17th, predicting temperatures in the area would reach 38 degrees Celsius.
The paramedics at the scene quickly provided first aid to them and transported 10 people in serious condition to a nearby hospital.
“Thanks to the quick response of the event organizers and emergency responders, no serious injuries were reported,” Colorado Springs Fire Chief Randy Royal said.
The Pikes Peak Air Show was held at the Colorado Springs Airport for two days on the 17th and 18th. It attracted a lot of attention even before the event, as it featured a performance by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight team and various types of aircraft on display.
In fact, tickets for both days were sold out on the official website, and the audience enjoyed the event outdoors despite the scorching heat.
As many people suffered from heat-related illnesses, the event organizers announced on their official social media, “The weather is hot, so please drink plenty of water,” and “There is a free water fountain in the center of the event venue near the medical station.”
The fire department also urged people to “take extra care for safety, such as drinking plenty of water and preparing for the heat.”
