The swabs and the scenario
I total swabs (molecular and antigenic) were 260.962, or 8,316 more than yesterday when it was 252,646. While the rate of positivity 1,5% (the approximation of 1.508%): it means that out of 100 swabs performed, more than 1 positive result; yesterday it was 1.3%. Here is the map of the contagion in Italy.
More infections in 24 hours than yesterday, in any case below 5 thousand for five days. Normally the oscillating curve always rises in the middle of the week due to a greater number of buffers, and then touches its weekly maximum point on Thursday. The improvement in the scenario is there and can be seen from the comparison with last Wednesday (May 19) – the same day last week -, when +5,506 cases were registered with a positive rate of 1.9%: today we have fewer new infections on May 19 with a lower percentage (1.5% versus 1.9%). The trend remains down as the curve graph shows.
The curve of the new positives on the Civil Protection website
The situation is also global evolves favorably. According to the WHO, infections and deaths in the world have decreased in the last week: -14% new cases compared to the week before (4.1 million) and -2% deaths (84 thousand). Things are better in Europe: -25% new cases (525 thousand) and -21% deaths (13 thousand).
Neither region has a new four-digit positive increase (i.e. a thousand and more) for the sixth consecutive day. There Lombardy the most affected: here are +666 new cases, thanks to over 42,000 swabs – the highest number of regional tests of the day – with a rate of 1.6% which is more or less in line with the national one (here the bulletin). Follows the Campania: +483 cases with a rate of 2.6%.
