尹, there is a high possibility of refusal to attend this time too.
The Corruption Investigation Office appears to be launching a compulsory investigation, including an arrest warrant.
Constitutional Court, first impeachment trial today… 尹’s ‘no response’
The High-ranking Public Officials’ Crime Investigation Office (Corruption Investigation Office), which is investigating the 12/3 martial law declaration incident, notified President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is suspected of being the leader of the rebellion, of a request to appear for the third time. If President Yoon fails to respond again, the Corruption Investigation Office is expected to initiate a mandatory investigation, including requesting an arrest warrant.
On the 26th, the Mutual Aid Investigation Headquarters (Gongjobon), which consists of the Airborne Investigations Office, the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, and the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters, announced, “We have notified the third appearance request to appear at the Airborne Investigations Office at 10 a.m. on the 29th.” The attendance request was sent by electronic document and express mail to the Office of the President, the Office of the Presidential Secretary, and the Presidential Residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Previously, President Yoon did not respond not only on the 15th when the prosecution notified him of his attendance, but also on the 18th and 25th when the Public Relations Agency notified him of his attendance. The Corruption Investigation Office, which was contemplating whether to notify additional attendance and request an arrest warrant, decided to notify attendance once more after consultation with the police.
It is highly likely that President Yoon will not respond to the third notification. President Yoon’s side maintains its stance that it will not immediately respond to the investigation, saying, “The impeachment trial process at the Constitutional Court takes priority over the investigation.” If President Yoon fails to appear again, the Korean Mutual Aid Agency is considering launching a mandatory investigation, including requesting an arrest warrant.
President Yoon is not cooperating with the Constitutional Court’s impeachment trial process. The first argument preparation date was held on the 27th, but President Yoon did not submit materials such as martial law-related cabinet meeting minutes and proclamations as requested by the Constitutional Court until the 26th, and did not appoint a representative. The Constitutional Court plans to proceed with the argument preparation date as scheduled, but if President Yoon’s side does not appear, there is a high possibility that it will be delayed. The Constitutional Court held a judges’ meeting on the morning of the 26th and discussed how to respond if President Yoon’s side does not attend.
